I have always painted, and loved visits to my Grandmother who painted portraits for a hobby. She gave me my  first set of oil paints when I was about twelve – and I never looked back. Having started painting in a very traditional manner I now often walk the tightrope between expressive painting and the abstract. I don't like to travel too far into abstraction, preferring instead to paddle in the shallows. Here figurative painting can develop a new character: after all, the imagination can paint better than any artist. I never say no to any media or style, since the process of experimentation and making 'mistakes' is where the exciting and interesting are allowed to develop out of the mundane.
